How long does tennis elbow surgery take to heal?
I typically utilize a minimally invasive approach to tennis elbow that does not require stitches or even general anesthesia. This procedure is called the Tenex procedure. For this, the scarred portion of tendon is visualized with an ultrasound. A small amount of local anesthesia is injected in the area, and a small nick is made in the skin. The Tenex probe is introduced into the area of unhealthy scarred tendon and ultrasonic energy is delivered to liquefy and remove the unhealthy portion of tendon. With this technique patients can drive themselves home from surgery, do not require any type of splint and can use their hands immediately after surgery. Moderate or heavy lifting is postponed for a six week period and return to sports can occur at three months after surgery.
